General Policy Statement
The school’s general policy statement of the school library program is to be an active contributor to the needs and goals of the school’s instructional goals. Furthermore, the school library program will support and extend the needs of all school staff, teachers and parents regardless of ability or disability. The school’s library media specialist will be an active participant during STAR (Scholars Teaming to Achieve Results) meetings. In the event that the school is limited in particular learning resources, it is the school library’s objective to seek further assistance through the district’s library media program. This library Policy and Procedures Manual shall be revised yearly by the district’s library committee which includes all district librarians. The school’s librarian should abide by the policy statements listed below in order to ensure that all students, staff, and parents’ Intellectual Freedom is protected. The library media specialist will develop and implement school board-approved collection development policies.

Policy Specifics: The main objective of the library media’s learning resources is to be an integral part of the academic program and to facilitate its literary resources. It is the library media specialist’s duty to provide staff, students and parents with a wide range of materials.
Procedures: The library media specialist at Sanchez Elementary shall use the following criteria when considering adding or replacing print, non-print or electronic learning resources to the library collection.
In order for the library media specialist to select learning resources for the library collection, he/she will evaluate resources, need and added value to the collection by consulting the following sources as needed.
3. In addition, it is highly recommended to examine and if possible make purchases from the state award lists: Texas Bluebonnet list and Lone Star Reading List. Purchases should not be made from only these lists alone.
Recommendations for purchase involve administrators, staff members, teachers, students, parents, and community persons as appropriate.

- Have a high degree of potential user appeal.
- Motivate students to examine their own attitudes; to understand their rights, duties, and responsibilities as citizens; and to make informed judgments in their daily lives.
